Gasthaus

Slow Living on the edge of Modern Life & Saxon Origins

At Mesendorf Gasthaus you will stay in traditional Saxon households from the charming village of Mesendorf, in the heart of Transylvania. Organized around two generous inner yards and composed of large houses with tall, wooden ceilings, and various annexes, the property has been carefully restored to preserve Saxon heritage and offer our guests comfort and relaxation.

  • The OLD Houses

Built more than a hundred years ago, the old houses share the traditional Saxon architecture in the area. They have been recently restored with care and respect for their rich cultural heritage and, now, they can welcome guests in beautifully-designed rooms that combine tradition with today's comfort.

  • The NEW Houses

Built more recently, the two new houses in the courtyard follow the beauty and simplicity of the Saxon architecture and complete the landscape without interfering with its authenticity. They are each divided into 3 rooms with a playful design and an inner stairway to a small attic, creating an ideal space for families with children or groups of friends.

  • The MAGICAL Barn

In the magical barn the old meets the new in the best way so as to preserve the cultural and historical value of this architectural gem. More than 100 years old, the Saxon barn has been preserved in its original form with the help of a "wooden chamber" placed between its old oak poles, hosting the space where guests can enjoy a glass of wine, play a board game, or just relax and admire the view.

  • The LIBRARY Barn

We have always dreamed of a bookcase from floor to ceiling, so we converted one of the barns in our guesthouse library. The bookshelves made of old oak, stone floor and massive fireplace complement the old oak beams and create a space made of natural materials where we can get lost in an interesting book while cozying up by the fireplace or admiring the sun soaked orchard.

  • The DINING Room

For our dining barn we chose an open kitchen that allows us to be closer to our guests and tell the story behind all our delicious meals and natural ingredients. With large glass walls on two sides, you can have a quiet meal inside, while still being connected to the natural surroundings. As a plus, the glass walls slide open in the summer.

  • The MEETING Room

The meeting room is housed in a converted old barn and is perfect for workshops, group discussions or conferences of up to 40 people. With two of the walls made of glass, your group will enjoy the natural setting of our guesthouse, but also the quiet required to connect with the team, be creative and productive.

  • The HUNTERS' Lounge

The hunters’ lounge offers a space for small, intimate gatherings or for relaxing moments by the fireplace. Located in the demi-basement of one of the old houses and including two rooms, it is also the only space in the house where you will find a TV!

If you want to know more about our sustainable hunting philosophy and our love for the forest and all its inhabitants, we are happy to have a chat.

  • The ORCHARD & Courtyard

As you might expect from a Saxon house, Mesendorf Gasthaus is built around beautiful, generous inner yards, where you can enjoy a drink or a good book, from spring till autumn, or play in the snow during winter. Behind the magical barn there also lies a large orchard from where you can admire the hills and forests right behind the guest house. Children will love it!
